Your Startup May Not Currently Be Investable Because:
Your Startup Does Not Currently Appear to Be Investable Because:
Successful management teams consider issues from multiple angles. High on the angel investor group / VC list of success factors is a passionate, diverse management team with varying perspectives, which can execute. Lacking these attributes may result in the teams’ inability to demonstrate the required executive capabilities.
Investors may see hundreds of pitches from entrepreneurs each year. NDAs / Confidentiality Agreements are difficult to administer and may even encourage legal action. Most angel investor groups and VCs have a policy against executing such agreements, especially in the early stages.
Investors in scalable startups are not fond of existing debt. Their objective is to invest in the startup to enable it to grow. Such investors have no desire to pay for previous growth.
A key value component of all startups is their IP. Should the IP not be embedded in the startup, but instead be held outside the startup, the interest of investors will decline radically.
Pending lawsuits mean an investor may be investing to defend a lawsuit as opposed to enabling the growth of the opportunity. Even if the result of such a lawsuit is likely to be to the advantage of the startup, the investor will likely view it, in the best case, as a distraction and will find the opportunity less than compelling.
Angel investor groups and VCs seldom invest in opportunities with existing and continuing protective provisions such as anti-dilution clauses, which are written to the favor of the founders, advisors and earliest investors.
